Welcome....I hope you will enjoy looking at the photos.

The collection are snapshots of the UK's railway within the environment and are not intended to be the usual '3/4-type' shot, a small number are present but they are intended to be the exception. I have tried to capture the less usual side of the UK's railway scene.

The site is Work-in-Progress, WIP, as they say with captions awaiting completion with full details.

All the images have been shot on Nikon equipment and in RAW with varying degrees of post production/manipulation and cropping. No 'air brushing' of unwanted 'articles' has been undertaken on the images

2013 - May : Took advantage of the freight diversions over the Stamford line. A visit to Hitchin over the Bank holiday produced some some sunny shots and work took me to a rainy Manchester. A visit to Fawley Hill on the 18th to Steam Fete produced a few interesting shots of the Hudswell 0-6-0 engine storming up the hill. Work took me to Scotland and Polmadie depot. During the stay took in the Deltic/EMU and Pretendolino moves into Kilmarnock.

2013 - April : HST Diversions to Waterloo took my attention in the first weeks of April followed by the ongoing freight diversions around Gainsborough & Lincoln/Brigg. Short visits to the Churnet Valley and Llanfair & Welshpool railways.

2013 - March : Wenrt to the Mid Hants Steam Gala followed by Peak Rail the following weekend. The following weekend saw some relatively heavy snow fall and diversions of the ECML services around the Hertford loop. A trip to Felixstowe concluded the month along with some local attractions in the way on diverted sleeper and mail traffic from the WCML.

2013 - January : Some interesting shots were taken of the ambitious wrong line workings on the southern end of the ECML at New Barnet & Southgate. Some successful panning shots north of Peterborough and the LUL Steam event.

2012 - November : Another visit to Cheddington and popped into Arlesey, Beds. Engineering works on the new Hitchin chord/flyover produced a few worthy shots. Frinkley Lane nr. Grantham visited on the 23/11/12 produced a few decent sunny shots. Some shots of Letchworth Garden City and Frinkley Lane were published in Rail

2012 - July : First day of the month saw a few East Coast trains diverted over the Cambridge branch. A trip to Sandy fishing lakes to see the Class 86/87 charter to York followed by a Saturday on the WCML near Leighton Buzzard. A few days away in Kent toward the end of the month took in HS1 and the Kent & East Sussex railway.

2012 - June : The highlight of the month has to Railfest but I took the chance to visit the North York Moors railway. Having missed the opening of the Epping & Ongar railway this was visited the following week. The last weekend saw the Lowestoft air show loco-hauled sets running.

2012 - May : The 'Hastings' unit took a charter trip to the Nene Valley railway this month and so I have included a few shots of that in unfamiliar surroundings. A trip to Scotland secured a few different shots.and the diesel gala at the North Norfolk Railway produced some nice shots especially of the Deltic.

2012 - April : The month started with a trip out to see the 'S' Stock movement along with a quick visit to Frinkley Lane. Visits mid April to the Whittlesey & March and Ashford produced a few worthy shots. A dull saturday visit to Ledburn produced a few shots of the Rapeseed fields with the WCML and the rain filled clouds as back drops.

2012 - March : Diversions was the theme of the month. Whilst the first weekend was spent in the east midlands with Freightliner diversions, the remainder of the month was mainly centered around the ECML Diversions along the Cambridge branch and the varying weather encountered at the weekends.

2012 - January : The cold weather brought with it some opportunities for some walks alongside the ECML. A winter visit to the Great Central Railway offered some nice shots with the bright sun. I also took a trip to the WCML in an attempt to try some experimentation with some silhouette shots with setting sun at Chelmscote. Latterly in the last days of the month, and again attempting some experimentation with the low sun, I went to Burton with a view to see what was in the Nemesis yard.

2011 - November : Still the good weather holds however the we have had a few dull days which has curtailed visits. A trip to Marholm produced two experimental shots which didn't turn out too bad. A trip ' up the joint' to see the ECML diversions produced some interesting shots at Methringham and Stowgate. Mid month saw a trip to Ware to see a Test Train run to Hertford East and also captured to RHTT running. Havng rediscovered my 'wide-angle' lens my experimenting continued with some shots taken around Wood Walton on the ECML.

2011 - October : The warm unseasonal weather continued and I took advantage of this with a number of trips commencing with the Nene Valley Railway Gala. Various local trips to the ECML & the MML for the RHTT's. Middle of the month saw a stint at Linslade and the Deltic gathering at the East Lancs, Railway. The month drew to a close with a trip to Exeter and the ECML diverts up through Spalding & Lincoln.

2011 - August : August saw quite a few 'outings'. These included regular locations and some never visited before. The latter included locations such as the East Anglian Railway Museum, Network Rail's Whitemoor yard on the open day and the waste transfer station at Calvert. A trip on the UK Railtours charter to Buxton - the Limestone Cowboy was also undertaken. Included here also are some panning shots taken at Bainton/Lolham on the ECML north of Peterborough.

2011 - July : A place I had always wanted to go to but never got the time was the branch line to Middleton towers. this was duly visited on the 5th of the month. A long weekend in the Cumbria on the S&C culminated in a wet visit to Kingmoor for the open day. Earlier in the month Two of Northampton's preserved railways were were visited on the 3rd.
